So what’s in a name?
Quite a bit actually and that’s why we wanted a name for our retreat cabin that would carry some of it’s mission there. A few years ago we had the privilege of traveling around Scotland for a few days. We would often come across a building that had bothy in it’s name. We had no idea what that was so we looked it up when we got home. We learned that a bothy is a small cabin that is sparely provisioned, typically a bed, table, fireplace and a few basic food items. The door of a bothy is left unlocked and available for anyone that needs shelter. There is no charge for the use and the guest is only asked to replace any items they use and leave it as they found it.
This was one of the best descriptions we had heard for what we wanted our retreat cabin to offer. A shelter in a time of need. Since we built it on a tiny house trailer base it followed for us to call ours the Tiny Bothy. While you will need a key code to unlock the door we hope that once you enter you’ll find that same spirit of shelter and protection along with the open invitation to rest.
Below are a few photos from the process starting with bringing the trailer home from the manufacturer.
